Nordic Walks with Susan Spain 21st December to 13th January 2018

Dear Parks and Pathways Nordic Walking Member,

It is so good to be back out Nordic Walking after snow and ice stopped play over the last week or so! Adventure Walks included Friday’s Heaton Park with a pre walk lunch (the Hidden Gem Cafe at the Garden Centre did us proud) and Monday’s Chorlton Water Park and Kenworthy Woods Circular.

Congratulations also to Laurence who is the final Parks and Pathways Nordic Walking graduate of 2017. She completed her Fast Track LTNW course last Saturday and is now raring to get onto regular walks and is looking forward to meeting up again with Elena who she met on her Taster a few months ago!

If I don’t see you this week then have a very Merry Christmas and I wish you all the very best for the New Year and look forward to helping you achieve your health and fitness goals during 2018. There is soooo much to look forward to Nordic Walking-wise.

COMING UP –  additional  one off specials – longer walks –  just listed. WALK OFF THOSE CHRISTMAS CALORIES  

I’ve just listed two great additional longer walks up in the Horwich & Rivington Area of Bolton where I used to live. (£8.50, no discount for these walks and they are not included in my free walk christmas present offer)

Friday 29th December – Post Christmas Blaster Ramble at Rivington with a pre walk lunch at Rivington Great Barn ( 12.30pm to 3.30pm). 3 to 4 miles around the Rivington Estate and Reservoirs to walk off those Christmas Calories.  This is a moderate walk on mainly flat terrain.

Sunday 7th January – Sunday Special Hike to the Pike from Curley’s tea rooms, Horwich. Walk from 9.30am to around 12 noon with lunch or a brew at Curleys to follow. This is a more strenuous walk on rougher terrain. 4-5 miles. Get your New Year’s fitness regime off to a great start.’s-Dining-Rooms,-Horwich,-Bolton

There are also some lovely walks being held during the Christmas and New Year period by other local instructors. I intend to do the New Year’s Eve walk on 31st December at 10am with Kerley (3 hills in Cheshire Longer Adventure Walk Frodsham Hill, Woodhouse Hill, Helsby Hill, 10am 7 miles £10 no discount Book at Let me know if you’re coming too.

REGULAR Walks coming up


 21st December this week then resume on Thursday 4th January.,-Salford-Quays

These are 45 minute lunchtime energiser workout walks starting from BBC Quay House at Salford Quays MediaCityUK which can be booked via this link. These walks are open to ALL FREEDOM PASSPORT HOLDERS so why not come and walk somewhere different around the Quays and then stop for lunch/shopping/film/go to the Imperial War museum afterwards. Note paws are required on this walk due to the surfaces we walk on.  Search for BBC Walks


Early afternoon adventure walks in various lovely locations across Greater Manchester. Gears 1 & 2. Easy/moderate pace 3-4 mile walks taking between 1 and 1.5 hours with a brew stop (if cafes are open). Occasionally with a pre walk lunch option on a Friday. Need a lift? On Friday’s I have spaces for 4 people in my car if travelling from the South side of Manchester. Pick up point for a lift is either The Northern at 12.45pm or The Britannia at 12.50pm. If you want a lift please contact me to ensure I have space in my car before booking on the walk.

Friday 5th January – Sale Water Park (Jackson’s Boat Inn) Circular – Meet at car park by Visitor Centre on Rifle Road (drive passed the Metro link car park. Friday 12th January – Dukes Drive and Bridgewater Canal Circular with pre walk lunch at the Waterside. NOTE – Lunch is 1pm to 2pm with the walk starting at 2pm finishing by 3.30pm.—Dukes-Drive-&-Bridgewater-Canal-Circular-with-Pre-Walk-Lunch

Monday Motivators will commence again on 15th January. Location tbc.


Faster paced, timed, hill incline and speed reps, strength and conditioning. If you have a set of hand weights I will be asking you to bring them with you in the New Year.

Workout Walks will continue without a break through Christmas and the New Year.

Wellbeing Walks will resume in the New Year on Monday 15th January.  For people who want to Learn to Nordic Walk at a slower pace, are returning to exercise or who have concerns about their current fitness. Clients must have an induction session before joining the group – contact Susan for more information and to organise an induction.  Induction sessions lasting 30 mins cost £10 and allow me to ensure I can assess, talk to and understand each clients needs more fully before joining the group.

FREE TASTER SESSIONS ( lots of sessions now listed for 2018)  – please encourage your friends and family to give it a try or book on if you’ve not tried it yet. The next ones are.

I can also offer private lessons if preferred. Private 121 lessons cost £25 per person per hour.
