Susan Spain’s Parks and Pathways Nordic Walking Newsletter 3rd Jan 2017

Dear Parks and Pathways Nordic Walking Member,

Happy New Year! And here’s to another year of fitness, fun and friendship Nordic Walking. This is the first newsletter of 2018. For those new to this newsletter, I usually send it out on a Tuesday evening and try and list the next 10 days worth of walks so you can plan your diaries. Key or new info is highlighted in red and Tasters/Learn to Nordic Walk course dates are shown at the bottom. Looking forward to meeting everyone that has booked a Taster session this week and introducing you to this great activity.

THIS WEEKEND GET YOUR NEW YEAR’S FITNESS REGIME OFF TO A GREAT START and the weather is looking good for all walks this weekend too!

Sunday 7th Jan at 9.30am –  Sunday Special  Hike to the Pike from Curley’s Tea Rooms, Horwich Bolton. Around 5 miles, longer more strenuous walk with some steeper climbs. (£8.50, no discount)(For NWUK Freedom Passport holders)

Walk from 9.30am to around 12 noon with lunch or a brew at Curleys which is a great place to eat to follow. This is a more strenuous walk on rougher terrain with some steeper climbs. LATEST WALK NEWS. There was a brisk Workout Walk on Saturday plus Fiona, Miriam and I also went on Elizabeth Kerley’s (with a K not a C this time) longer 3 hills of Cheshire walk on New Year’s Eve. Congratulations to both of you for doing your longest Nordic walk to date. 8+miles up Frodsham, Helsby and Woodhouses Hills and so glad the weather held. Some pictures are attached. Kerley’s walks are usually based around the Delamere, Frodsham, Runcorn areas and us walking together is a prime example of how the NWUK Freedom Passport gives you the opportunity to go on walks all over the UK with other instructors and meet other Nordic Walkers. I also acted as backmarker on this walk for Kerley which meant there were two qualified instructors and first aiders on the walk.

I have lots of exciting plans coming up for 2018 plus thank you to those who have said they will volunteer to be Walk Leaders for me. This will be a tremendous help to me programme-wise. More news on this coming soon.  HELP REQUIRED to build our groups – If you can help me spread the word and get new members during 2018 that would be really appreciated. Is there someone you could encourage to come and learn, or could you display a poster somewhere where lots of people will see it? Or is there a group you belong to that may like to have a taster session? If you follow me on Facebook could you share my posts/page with your friends? If you follow me on Twitter could you retweet my tweets?
